DOST-STII, PUP Taguig campus seal agreement; Transfers office and library equipment to boost students learning experience

To help enhance the learning environment of the nation’s scholars, the Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) turned over a number of furniture and fixtures on May 13, to the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Taguig Campus.

The donation includes a variety of functional office and library equipment, such as free-standing tables, round and executive wooden tables, foldable training tables, orange wooden tables and chairs, card catalogs, and a wooden cabinet.

These items are intended to upgrade the campus facilities and provide a more conducive atmosphere for both students and faculty.

In her welcome remarks, DOST-STII’s Finance and Administrative Division Chief Arlene E. Centeno said that the initiative is rooted in the belief that government resources should always be maximized for the public good.

“We at DOST-STII believe that government resources should continue to create value and serve meaningful purposes whenever possible. Through this donation, we hope that these items will contribute to a more conducive learning and working environment for our 'Iskolar ng Bayan,’” she said.

She also added that the activity is more than just the transfer of property–it symbolizes cooperation between institutions dedicated to knowledge and nation-building.

Dr. Rhyan V. Molinar, head of Academic Programs at PUP Taguig, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the university.

“Unity is a strength. Our collaboration is a strength. When there is a wonderful collaboration, great things happen. We are so thankful for the transfer not only of the knowledge, but also of the culture of those people who are sitting here 30 years ago until now. And I hope that it's the same, not just the knowledge, but also the culture,” he said as he reminisced about all the help that PUP Taguig has received from DOST from then until now.

Alan C. Taule, chief of the Information Resources and Analysis Division (IRAD) of DOST-STII, hoped that the donation would help enrich the students of PUP Taguig and that this would mark the commencement of more partnerships between the two institutions.

The turnover ceremony was witnessed by Elena C. Mamansag, PUP Taguig University librarian, and Gina dela Cruz, property custodian, along with the members of the DOST-STII’s Disposal and Appraisal Committee on Unserviceable Equipment, Furniture, and Fixtures, and representatives from the Commission on Audit.
