Ilocos region to host the national science week 2025

The much-anticipated week-long celebration of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Week (NSTW) will be held this year in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on November 18-21, 2025.

With the theme, “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities,” guests, key stakeholders, students, and the science community may enjoy a series of science, technology, and innovation forums, technology exhibits, product and technology pitchings and business-to-business matching, science competitions and many more which will be held in SM City Laoag, Robinsons Place Laoag, Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Laoag City Auditorium, and Ilocandia Cultural Center.

In line with the Presidential Proclamation No. 780 series of 2019, which designates the fourth week of November as the NSTW, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its attach agencies and regional offices promote the latest technological breakthroughs and developments in the local science and technology (S&T) scene and contribute to national development.

The annual event serves as a platform to highlight innovation, facilitate S&T advocacy, and connect various stakeholders. 

During the NSTW last year held in Cagayan de Oro City, the DOST set a Guinness World Record for "Most People Planting Bamboo Simultaneously (multiple venues)". 

“After Iloilo City and Cagayan de Oro City, this is the third time we are bringing the NSTW outside Metro Manila to showcase locally developed technologies and research and development (R&D) outputs to the Ilocos Region. For this year in Laoag City, we envision the NSTW as a great venue for local communities, researchers, scientists, local government leaders, and policymakers to learn how these scientific products can be maximized in establishing smart and sustainable communities.”said DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr.

The record-breaking "Kawayanihan" event involved 2,305 participants in 19 locations across Mindanao and Leyte on October 18, 2024, and was officially confirmed on November 28, 2024, during the NSTW celebration in Cagayan de Oro City.
