Sustainability is increasingly becoming a business imperative as the demand for responsible practices grows in response to environmental challenges, including issues related to solid waste management and resource sustainability.
Co-organized by SM Prime, DOST, and ARISE Philippines, SUSTEX 2025 is a premier event aimed at encouraging sustainable business practices through innovations in technology, products, and processes.
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. said in a statement that SUSTEX 2025 reflects the agency’s unwavering commitment to harnessing science, technology, and innovation (STI) to build a more sustainable and resilient future, which is aligned with DOST’s fourth strategic pillar of institutionalizing sustainability.
“Through collaboration with industries, government, and communities, we aim to accelerate solutions that will help transform the Philippine’s business landscape into a true champion of circular economy and climate action. At the heart of these efforts is our goal to empower every Filipino to become a victor, not a victim, in the face of disasters and climate challenges,” he said.
The SUSTEX 2025 will serve as a powerful platform for cross-sector dialogue, policy alignment, and collaborative action, bringing together SM tenant-partners; micro, small, and medium enterprises; multinational enterprises; innovation champions; and key government organizations.
For his part, Mr. Hans T. Sy, chairman of the Executive Committee of the SM Prime Holdings, Inc. said that SM Prime Holdings, Inc. believes that innovation is central to achieving a low-carbon, circular, and resilient future.
“Through SUSTEX, we aim to move beyond dialogue – to shape solutions, forge stronger partnerships and drive change at the scale this moment demands,” he added.
Designed to catalyze sustainable business practices through cutting-edge technologies and scalable process innovations, SUSTEX focuses on key pillars of environmental performance: waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency, air quality improvement, and disaster resilience. It advocates not only knowledge sharing but also co-creation of sustainable solutions that will drive the Philippine private sector toward a circular, low-carbon, and resilient future.
The event also reinforces the DOST Memorandum of Understanding on advancing plastic alternatives and supports SM Prime’s Waste-Free Future Campaign.
Activities during the two-day event include sessions that will tackle how STI accelerates country’s transition toward a green and circular economy; the critical role of various government agencies in shaping a policy and regulatory ecosystem that supports environmental stewardship among businesses; insights into the European Union’s Circular Economy Action Plan showcasing its successful models, policies, and innovations; and SM Prime’s comprehensive sustainability strategy and its ongoing efforts to embed environmental stewardship across its real estate portfolio, among others.
Latest technologies, products and processes that drive sustainability in waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency, air quality, and disaster resilience will also be showcased by over 50 exhibitors.
SUSTEX, or the SM Sustainability Expo, is a collaborative platform spearheaded by SM Prime, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and ARISE Philippines to advance science-based, innovative, and inclusive solutions for a greener, more resilient future. Anchored on DOST’s four strategic pillars (human well-being, wealth creation, wealth protection, and sustainability), SUSTEX brings together industries, innovators, and government leaders to accelerate the shift toward circular economy, low-carbon development, and climate resilience.
